Calculation of JL Shipping Costs
JL shipping costs = number of items x logistics cost per item + shipping weight x logistics cost per kg.
All logistics amounts are calculated automatically. The billing of shipping costs will be then sent to the Joom's platform. All we do is to calculate the shipping expenses incurred between the shippers and the merchant, and then charge the JL shipping costs in the billing for the merchant.
As Joom Logistics service grows, we are trying to negotiate with our logistic partners to bring the logistic costs down.
If the package is returned during the fulfillment due to the merchant's mistake (for example, the package is found a dangerous kind when it arrives at the Post Office), we will then consider that the factual logistics costs had already incurred. The costs will be charged in the billing for the merchant, the payment for this order will be returned to the customer.
Merchant needs to contact the staff of the company that is responsible for package pick-up service directly, select the method of package collection.
Example of calculating JL Shipping Costs
- Product category: Clothing (take-rate: 15%)
- Product price: $3
- Shipping cost indicated by the merchant: $1.5
- Discount given by the merchant: 5%
- Number of packages: 1
- Shipping weight indicated by the merchant: 0.09kg
- Actual shipping weight: 96.2g
- Destination: Russia
Calculation of the shipping costs
1) Calculation of logistics costs
Order price: 3+1.5 = $4.5
$4.5 belongs to the price range "$2-$5", which means this order needs to be shipped via "SRM".
Shipping fees can be calculated according to the following formulas:
- SRM: (Number of packages x $0.81) + ($12.74 x Weight of package in kg.)
- RM: (Number of packages $1.35) + ($12.74 X Weight of package in kg.)
We charge shipping costs for every gram, so the actual shipping weight of 96.2g will be rounded up by the system to 97g(0.097kg).
Logistics costs: (0.81 x 1) + (12.74 x 0.097) = $2.04578
2) Liquidation expenses with the Third Party
After shipping the package, Hecny Group will send us the bill of all shipping costs indicated. Thereafter, the shipping costs will be directly charged by the platform in the billing for the merchant.
3) Billing amount
Billing amount = amount of payment receiving by merchant = factual order price - platform's take-rate - logistics costs - other costs
In our case, the billing amount will be $4.275 (4.5 x 0.95, the factual order price with discount) - $0.64125 (take-rate, 15% x factual order price) - $2.04578 (logistics costs) + $0.4(subsidies from shipment) = $1.98797
