How to add category attributes?
Category attributes are additional product information that varies by category and is used to present products in detail and accurately. Please refer to this article to learn more about attributes.
There are four ways to add the attributes for your products and product variants. You can do it via:
Adding via attributes section
- Go to Products, select a product you need to add attributes to, and click Edit Product.
- If the platform hasn’t determined the product category yet, select the category yourself. Please choose the category as accurately as possible.
- Once the product category is selected, the platform will generate requirements for attributes and the size chart. A list of all attribute requirements will be displayed below the Product Description and Attributes field.
-
Please indicate attributes. You don’t have to know all the attribute names, as they will be automatically generated and proposed for you below the Product Description and Attributes field. You just need to pick them from the list.
- Attributes that the system was able to recognize and import from the description will be highlighted in green.
- You will also find advice on valid values if the value is not numeric. You will find a list of all attribute requirements for your chosen category. You won't be able to create a product without the required attributes.
- In real-time mode, you can edit attributes and size charts in the description and immediately see how the platform imports and displays them. The imported attributes and size charts will be displayed in the corresponding section under the description.
- Click Save.
Thereafter, you will find products with uploaded attributes in the product card:
- Product Attributes: This is a list of all attributes imported from the product name, description, variants, or the special product attributes section.
- Not Parsed Attributes: This lists attributes added by a merchant through the special product attributes section, but not yet recognized or imported. These attributes will be added and displayed in the product description for end users.
-
Size Chart: This is a size chart created based on the size information provided in the product description.
Adding via product description
- Go to Products, and select a product you need to add attributes to, and click Edit Product.
- If the platform hasn’t determined the product category yet, select the category yourself. Please choose the category as accurately as possible.
- Scroll down to the Product Description and Attributes field.
- Carefully enter the attribute names and values in the Product Description and Attributes field, following our recommendations. Our system automatically recognizes attributes. The correct format is as follows:
- Attribute name: Attribute value
- Click Save.
To learn more about which attributes are required for different product categories, please refer to the Category Requirements page.
Adding via files
Attributes can be added to existing products, and to new ones during creation. We will consider both methods below.
Step 1: Download a template.
If you have already uploaded products:
- Go to Products and use the filters at the top of the page to select the products for which you want to add attributes.
- Click Export > Export Products with Attributes.
This way, you will download a file containing only the filtered products with attributes for your category. Regardless of whether the attributes are filled in or not, you can complete them immediately in this file.
If you haven’t uploaded products before:
- Open the Products > Manage Products > Create/Change via CSV/XLSX.
- Click Set up a template CSV/XLSX.
- Pick a template for all categories or a custom template for a specific category. You can choose up to 5 categories.
- Select the format: CSV or XLSX.
- Click Download, and you will receive a file with attributes.
Step 2: Fill out the template.
Open the template and enter attributes in the corresponding fields.
You can also specify attributes in the product description or create a new column with the attribute name and provide its value in the lines below.
How to correctly fill in attributes in a template?
- Please fill out all attributes in the template. If you leave some fields blank, those attributes will be removed from your product.
- Make sure that you indicate attributes in English.
- If you create new attribute names not listed in the template, specify them strictly according to the category requirements.
- If the attribute has multiple values, separate them by commas. There must be a space after each comma.
- If you fill in attributes in the product description, please follow this format:
- Attribute name 1: Attribute value 1, Attribute value 2
- Attribute name 2: Attribute value
If an attribute in the product description wasn’t recognized and imported for some reason, please do the following:
- Check if the attribute is listed as required, optional, or recommended for the category. If not, it’s possible you chose the wrong category, or the platform doesn’t yet support this attribute. You can contact our Merchant Support Team to suggest a relevant attribute, and we may consider supporting it.
- Ensure there are no spelling errors in the attribute names and values, and that they are written in English.
- Verify if the attribute value is valid. If the system doesn’t recognize this value, it won’t be imported from the product name, description, variants, or the special product attributes section. E.g., if you indicate “quality” as a value for the composition attribute, it might not be accepted as valid.
Step 3: Upload the completed file to the platform.
Save the file as CSV or XLSX and upload it to the Merchant Panel:
- Open the Products, click Manage Products and Create/Change via CSV/XLSX.
- Upload the file in the special field and click Upload. You can find the uploaded file in the My Files section.
Adding via API
You can add attributes via the API when creating or editing a product.
